Category 1: Registered PhD students
Candidates who have completed courses and research projects and are currently enrolled in a PhD program will be the target audience for the invitation. All universities that offer PhD programs in artificial intelligence (or any of its variants) are eligible to apply. Scholarships are awarded for a period of two years. Selection will only be made on the basis of the quality of the candidates and proposals.

AI4D Scholarships 2nd Call For African Students 2025 Eligibility:

Eligibility:

1. Applicants must be registered in an AI study (machine learning, expert systems, natural language processing, intelligent robotics, etc.) with a supervisor and have completed coursework and a research project. The applicant must provide a letter of support from their supervisor, as well as a copy of the PhD program admittance letter.
2. Applicants must have strong academic qualifications and be motivated to pursue a career in academia.
3. Applicants must understand the language of instruction at their host university. (French or Portuguese).
4. Applicants must be natives or permanent residents of an eligible sub-Saharan country.


Each chosen student will receive a partial grant worth up to US $27,000 awarded as displayed below
● Two years’ tuition up to $4000

● Research expenses up to $17,000

● Travel assistance for supervisors up to $6,000.

German DAAD Research Grants Germany’s 2025 International Student Population

Objective

The chance to carry out a research project in Germany is provided by the research funding. Research stays during a doctoral program or the early postdoctoral period are supported by the program.
Who is eligible to apply?
You may apply if you:

● You have already finished your PhD (post-doc, up to 4 years after completing your doctorate)

● You are pursuing your doctorate at a university or research organization outside of Germany.
NOTE: If you are doing your doctoral studies at a German university, you are not eligible to apply.


What is able to be funded?
A research conducted in collaboration with a German scientific supervisor from a state or state-recognized university or non-university research institute in Germany.


How long the funding will last

The funding is given for the duration of:
● PhD candidates: two to twelve months
● Postdocs: Two to six months


The funding cannot be split up during the funding period. Funding is not available for research projects carried out in nations other than Germany.


On the application form, please choose the funding period you would like. During the selection process, the committee will consider your work schedule and decide on the financing duration.
NOTE: Extension of the scholarship is not possible


Scholarship Worth
● Monthly scholarship payments of 1,300 euros

● Pay for health, accident, and personal liability insurance (see to section F, point 4 for crucial information for scholarship applicants).
● Travel allowance.
● For financing periods longer than six months: Research allowance of 460 euros.
Under certain conditions, you can apply for the following additional advantages after the start of funding.
● Monthly rent subsidy for more than six months (see to crucial information for scholarship applicants, section F, point 9).
● A monthly payment is available for accompanying family members for funding periods exceeding six months.

● Applicants with disabilities or chronic illnesses may be eligible for a subsidy to cover additional costs incurred abroad that are not covered by a third party. The amount of the subsidy will be determined on an individual basis (see important information for scholarship applicants, section F, point 8).
● Green Mobility Top Up, a subsidy for eco-friendly travel, or repayment of carbon offset payments for air travel.


To help you enhance your language skills in preparation for your stay in Germany, the DAAD provides the following benefits (only for financing periods of more than six months).

● Pay online language course fees after receiving the Scholarship Award Letter.

● If necessary, take a German language course in Germany before beginning the research project. The DAAD will fund participation based on German language skills and project duration.


● Allowance for a German language course during the scholarship period – Fee reimbursement for a TestDaF or DSH test, which can be taken in Germany or your home country after receiving the Letter of Award.


Selection process
The applications are reviewed by an independent selection committee made up of professional scientists.
The selection criteria are:
Academic qualification
● Academic achievements (grade point average and grade development) – Academic progress

● Proficiency in the language(s) of instruction or work – Relevant scholarly achievements after graduation (e.g. publications, lectures, conference papers)
The quality of a research project includes its proposal and preparation (originality, topicality, and relevance of the project, choice of host institution, and first contacts), feasibility and consistency of the study plan and schedule, and incorporation of the project into the overall doctorate (content and time), if applicable.
The applicant’s potential career possibilities include the relevance of the research project and the opportunity to improve academic, professional, and personal development during their stay in Germany.
● Motivation for visiting Germany, including academic and personal reasons, as well as German language abilities (if different from working language).

● Non-study-related activities, such as civic involvement.

What exactly does the scholarship cover?
The International Student Scholarship enables qualifying LSA students to cover the cost of attendance for fall and winter terms

Amount and Duration
The award money can be up to $25,000 USD. All International Student Scholarships are renewable for four years of undergraduate study, provided students meet their requirements each academic year.


Eligibility requirements
To apply for an International Student Scholarship, students must be entering first-year undergraduates admitted to a degree program in the College of LSA. Students will be considered even if they haven’t yet registered.
