TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – For some flights and destinations in Japan, visitors from Taiwan will be able to have their travel documents pre-screened before their departure during the busy Lunar New Year period, Taoyuan International Airport Corporation (TIAC) said Saturday.
The program will last from Jan. 16 to Feb. 2 and apply to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, but further details have not been revealed yet, per CNA. The new rules will be valid only for some Japanese destinations and not for all flights to those same airports, TIAC said.
Taiwan and Japan still needed to agree details of the program. Passengers will be able to have their documents pre-screened at Taoyuan, saving them time after they arrive in Japan.
The choice of whether to participate in the pre-screening will be up to the traveler, according to TIAC. Japan will send officials to Taoyuan to check the documents, take pictures and fingerprints before the passengers board their flight.
TIAC said earlier it was expecting 3.8 million passengers to pass through Taoyuan during the Christmas, New Year, and Lunar New Year period, adding travelers should arrive at the airport three hours before their flight.
